Masked With Paper Issue 1 - The Legend of ABC - 14th June 2025

Obviously, before we start talking this discussion, we should set a foundation. Explain the context, the lore, if you will.

ABC started publishing their work online on a website typically, but not always, used to post fanfiction, Archive of Our Own. Their first work on their profile (that is still on their profile) is dated to have been started in March 2023, and finished in October 2024, with a note. ABC's username on Archive of Our Own is AppleBananaCoconut, however in each works's first author's note, they introduce themself as ABC, and explain that ABC as a user wasn't available.

ABC publishes exclusively F/F works (for those unknowing, this means works that involve a relationship between two feminine-identifying characters.), and she speaks in a few author's notes about ladies (celebrities or fictional characters) she is attracted to, or mentions a lady is going on a date with. This has lead many to speculate (though if you asked them, they'd say that "it's not speculating if the clear evidence is right there".) that ABC is a lesbian, or at least bisexual with a preference.

ABC isn't extremely talkative in their author's notes, just some comments about their progress on other works, if there's anything slowing any progress, and their monthly updates on things that happened in their life that they can hint towards while not revealing too much about themself. They've become popular.

I believe that is the foundation built. Moving onto...

What's so interesting about ABC?

Of course, there's discussion about why this writer is well known. They're surprisingly known in the community of writers original works on Archive of Our Own. As mentioned earlier, Archive of Our Own is typically used to post fanfiction. At the time of writing this, there are over 14 million works published, less than 400 thousand of which are tagged as being an original work. Fanfiction is absolutely the main focus on the website, which is one of the reason's it's so surprising when an author of exclusively original works becomes known in the community. Furthermore, of that less than 400 thousand , there are less than 60 thousand that are tagged as F/F. The community of writers for this niche is small, which makes one (or at least me) wonder, is the demand smaller, leading to less supply, or is the supply smaller, leading to more demand? It's likely that (please forgive the analogy) the animals that drink from this smaller watering hole are thirsty for more. And a new supply of good water has them going (rightfully) feral. This new writer, writing tens of works for these two tags (that when put together, really don't leave many options) starts to get recognised as a good writer for this niche, and a community starts to blossom.

I want to make something clear. I am not trying to mock anyone. I am a reader on this website, and a reader of this specific pair of tags. It's why I'm so passionate about this writer, why I made this newspaper. I don't want anyone angry in my email saying I'm disrespecting ABC, being harsh, or implying that ABC is only popular because there's not as many authors. I think even if there were as many F/F works as there were M/M works (over 70 thousand... no I'm not bitter why do you ask), ABC would still be known and appreciated, because they're a good writer. Now that that's out of the way, back to the point

What's interesting about ABC, is that they're using their skills to provide content that they know won't get much appreciation. They've been on the website for a while (since 2018, according to their profile), they would know that there's not many F/F works (compared to M/M and F/M), but they don't show any sign of slowing down on writing these works. It's admirable, some might say brave. Honestly, I say they're a hero. Thank you, ABC. I'll add another drawing of girls kissing to my wall tonight , in your honor.
